Campus Life Launches in Parma
By: Lisa Timko, Campus Life - Parma Director | Connection Newsletter - JULY, 2015Greater Cleveland Youth for Christ has recently launched their Campus Life program in Parma for students in the Parma school district, in partnership with the Parma Family Collaborative. With this unique partnership, Campus Life has the opportunity to engage students in middle and high school through creative programming – encouraging and mentoring the students while building meaningful relationships.
Lisa Timko is the director of the Campus Life program in Parma. Lisa has a unique opportunity to implement programs for the Parma students based on their distinct needs, such as divorce support or teen parent training. She can also create service projects, organize basketball tournaments, run an after-school club, and any number of student development programs. Currently, she is running the Ambassadors of Compassion program with a group of high school students, and also working with a team of students on a community service project.
In working with the students, Lisa and her volunteer team have a platform to challenge the students with thought-provoking discussions about life. Campus Life provides an open door for teens to find answers from people who are there for them during what is oftentimes a very confusing season for many of them.
In addition to the programs mentioned, Youth for Christ also partners with the Cleveland Indians, the Cleveland Cavaliers, the Strongsville Recreation Center, and other organizations to provide outreach events each year for Campus Life students to participate in. Through their Campus Life program, Youth for Christ reaches thousands of young people on a weekly basis.
In the three Parma high schools alone, there are over 4,700 students. The design of the Campus Life program allows for the school district to grant Lisa and her team opportunities to connect with the students in meaningful ways without compromise. Securing a team of committed volunteers is essential to the success of the Campus Life program. Volunteers are in a unique position to minister to teens and potentially alter the course of a student’s life forever through their investment of time and care.
