Don't Lose Heart

by Jeremy Kiner, Co-Director

With not much more than a blink, half the year has whizzed by us and now summer quickly unfolds. For some, like myself, the midpoint of the year brings a moment of reflection and reevaluation. About this time, we sense we’re either right on track with our hopes and expectations for the year or we’re battling the vexing frustration of slow (or no) progress toward the goals we set out so eagerly to achieve just months ago.

Whatever your assessment may be, I want to offer a simple word of encouragement to you, especially to all our area pastors and church leaders who, day in and day out, faithfully work the plow, ministering and serving, in and throughout our community.

Speaking personally and candidly, I know how the ever-increasing demands on our time, energy, and focus can challenge our very sanity at times. Who are we kidding if we cannot admit to some moments of exhaustion and anxiety as we try to balance family, work, and ministry?

We must never forget that we, too, are broken vessels, incapable of producing what God desires of our lives and ministries without His power and strength. The Lord knows exactly where we are at - physically, emotionally, and spiritually - and He knows our capacity and limitations, too. Galatians 6:9, therefore, should bring us comfort and assurance, “... let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart.”

Pastors and leaders, in all your diligence to do good, I encourage you, do not lose heart. There is an eternal purpose for every circumstance we face. Right now, if you feel tired, weary, or discouraged, let me remind you that the Lord is with you and He has not forsaken you. He is speaking and moving and is preparing His Church for greater things - a greater harvest! I assure you, every trial and adversity is for our good and His glory. As Psalm 90:17 speaks, my prayer for you is the same, that the Lord would keep you and establish the work of your hands.

So, as we press into the second half of this year, may the words of Christ resonate within you, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” (2 Cor. 12:9 NLT) I hope you can find rest and hope in that. Whatever you do, don’t give in and don’t give up. Stay in the fight. Be steadfast. Thank the Lord in all things and keep pressing in to what the He has called you to do, in your ministry and in our community. As His Word promises, so be it. In Jesus name!
